Ending the day and beginning the weekend
on a good note.
Trying to take a least one worthy photo which captures the essence of my world that day

2013/17 Feeling the Effects
My third session of my first cycle of chemo left me feeling nauseous and uncomfortable. I wasn't surprised because I felt the nausea the first two sessions, just not as severely. Kicking myself for not being prepared with something ginger. I was told and had read that ginger helps with this side effect.
I'm counting on feeling better tomorrow.
It was my time using the port. I was still a bit apprehensive. You never know which nurse you're going to get and some I trust or feel more comfortable with than others. Today, I had Jesse, one of the few male nurses at the infusion center, but he knows his stuff and is very empathetic. I didn't even feel a thing when he stuck me.
Thankful, too, for Brie's help when I got home this afternoon. Even though I was nauseous, I was hungry and she obligingly went to The Hat to get us dinner and emptied out the dishwasher. Mom also pitched in by cleaning up the blender I used for my healthy shake.
Still, all things considered, it was a good day. I'll take it.

2013/9 How Tall Am I?
For the second time in less than a week, I was asked to give my height. I used to say with pride, 5'6". Not quite Amazonian, but taller than average and that was good enough for me.
With the compression of my spine, I've dropped at least three (possibly four) inches. I don't know if I want to know exactly how much I lost. Losing my stature bothered me even more than the hunching of my spine so when I'm asked how tall I am, I pause and answer, I'm now 5'3" as though I want the person asking to know that I was once taller.
Today I had my port implanted. The surgery itself was easier than I imagined. The sedation is enough to render the incisions and tugging of the port more than tolerable, but the tube feels so strange inside my body. I imagine one must get used to the apparatus because I haven't heard anyone complain about this before.
But most importantly, I continue to feel stronger and better. I'm moving around with more ease and walking with better posture.
And for that I give thanks to the Lord.

Bits and Pieces
Started the day off enjoying the morning sunshine in the backyard.
It was a perfect start to a very good day.
I was thinking about driving out to Santa Monica when mom asked if I wanted to go to a car show with her. Her cousin, Veronica, with whom she recently reconnected was going to have a booth there and invited mom. I surprised mom by saying yes.
But first I had to spend a little time with Belle.
Part of my Saturday routine is to sit on the floor and hang out with our lovey dovey.
Even though the Angel's have been playing horrible, I decided to sport my Angel shirt. They may be losers, but they are my losers! Funny enough I had a fair number of comments (good and bad) about my shirt.
The car show was not as spectacular as the one at church earlier this year, but it was spending the day with mom and her cousin.
Since we were in Duarte, a trip to The Old Spaghetti Factory was in order. Yummity, yum, yum, yum!

Sunny Sunday
Wore pink for church today. I haven't had a pair of pink shoes in more than a decade. They make me feel like dancing.
I tried to take a self-portrait for a photo challenge for which I'm participating. I'm supposed to show a shake of some sort. Fail!
Today's message at church is "GO". God asked "Who will go for me?" It's been in my heart for so long as I've been wanting to go for HIM, but maybe I have not been willing or able. I'm praying for ways to serve Him. Please pray for guidance for me.

A Typical Day To, From and In the Office
The day started early, woke up at 4:42, happy that I had 18 more minutes to sleep or lay in bed...whichever! Still the alarm startled me and I jumped out of bed so I could leave the house in time. I'm not the kind who wants to do a lot before I leave for the day so I have just 45 short minutes to get ready to go.
I was greeted with the promise of a beautiful sunrise and, oh my goodness, I still need to get my windshield cleaned.
The moon was still out and about. I was hoping to get some of the hills in the shot, but I just put my phone up to the window and hoped for the best...had to keep my eyes on the road.
It was smooth sailing the whole drive in. It's the one reason I get up and out so early.
The day was uneventful. I got a lot done and happily all but one of my meetings were cancelled. Sometime during the day, renderings of our new office were put up in the hallway. We're moving in May 2012. I would have taken more pictures, but each time I would walk by someone would come up and I didn't want to feel like a weirdo. I don't mind taking picture of oddball stuff when no one I know is around because I'll never see them again so who really cares.
Seems like this whole year the sky has been filled with big puffy clouds. Today was no exception. As I came back from lunch I ended up parking in a completely different area so I could get this picture. Who wants to go back to work when it looks like this outside? Luckily I like my job, so back inside I went.
When I left for the day, I found a benefit of the back of the building, airplanes coming in for their landing! Since we are right next to the airport, we're within the flight path of airplanes coming in for landings. How could I not have seen this before. I was one minute too late to take the photo of the day as a s twin engine plane soared in. I waited for what seemed like 5 minutes for another plane to come down, but nothing. Mindful that every minute that passed just meant a longer commute home, I finally left with nothing to show for my trouble.
The traffic stunk on the way home. There were three accidents so it was pretty slow the whole trip. I was able to get some more pictures in. I started with some more planes coming in. With the clouds in the sky, you would see the planes coming from miles away, their silver bodies glistening in the white masses.
Made a note to self that next time I'm in the office, I am going to get pictures of the planes coming in.
Just for something to do as we crawled along.
Not the best shot, but not bad considering traffic started flowing as I put the camera up and quickly snapped.
Me talking to Matthew.
I thought it was a good hair day.
It was unseasonably cool. Was thinking this might be my last cup of hot cocoa of the season.
Just in case I added a little whip and chocolate jimmies.

Reflecting on Monday
I worked hard, ALL day long. It was easier to do when I know I have the rest of the week off. Didn't finish until after 5pm (keep in mind I started at 6:40am). I fought the urge to go out and take pictures.
In the morning, I took a few quick snaps of the tealight holders I bought last month. I had thought about taking them back, but they add a spark of pretty color. I'm glad, now, that I kept them.
At lunch time I went to Panera's just to stretch my body out. I've been hooked, hooked, on their chicken caesar salads with a baquette.
After work was over, I went to the backyard to admire the job I did yesterday. . Yesterday, I kept pushing the furniture around and around and around, trying to find the right placement. Our patio isn't the easiest to work with. Persistence paid off. I'm really liking the new arrangement much better than before. I wanted to rush out to Home Goods to see if I could find a throw blanket pillows and new seat cushions, but I resisted the urge since I'm trying to save money.
Who knows what I was trying to do with this shot? Get a different overhead view of the chairs, but ended up with my body. I kind of like it, so I kept it. Well, I like it, except for the slippers. Man, I HAVE to get a life!
It felt to be in the backyard with Belle. She used to love to climb up on the right side of the yard, up on the wall. With the backyard cleaned up, the wood that she used to use to climb up there is gone so she can't get up there on her own anymore. Every once and a while, I put her up there and she goes crazy with happiness.
I was planning to stay home all night long, but Brie got home right before 7pm right as I was thinking of making me some waffles. Instead I went to get us some chicken and rice from El Pollo Loco (or El Pollo Slowco as I know call them). On my way there and back, I captured the glory of the evening light. The sky looked like a painting to me.
For the last few days, I've been questioning my persistent use of my iPhone for picture taking. I think I need to take my DSLR out more and stop being so lazy.
